He studied Hadeeth at a young age and gained knowledge under his father; Shams ad Deen ‘Abdur Rahmaan ibn Abu ‘Umar. Abu ‘Umar is Shaykh al Islaam, Muhammad ibn Ahmad, the brother of Muwaffaq ad Deen, ‘Abdullaah ibn Ahmad al Maqdasee, the author of al Mughnee.

He became a judge before the age of 30.
